James Shanahan

James Shanahan moved out to CA in 1997 to Attend the Anderson School of Business at UCLA. After graduating with an MBA in 1999 he started his career in money management at Roxbury Capital Management, where he was a Portfolio Manager for a small mid cap portfolio for institutional investors and high net worth individuals. After analyzing companies for 6 years and evaluating which business models worked best, James decided to buy an electrical distribution business in Long Beach, CA. The company, Mag-Trol Long Beach was in business for 30 years and supplied all the electrical material to keep the cranes in the ports of LA and Long Beach operating. From there he bought another electrical distributor in Huntington Beach, CA and opened another office in Ontario, CA. In 2016 his company was acquired by a strategic buyer from the East Coast who wanted to get into the CA market. With the proceeds from the sale of his distribution business, James started NexGen Financial. As President of NexGen, he has achieved significant growth and profitability in less than three years.
